End of 2024

There are precisely 11 days to go until 2025.

and… no. That’s not why I came to write this blog

I recently returned from an overseas trip to South Korea and Japan. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in both places. I was in South Korea for one of my student’s wedding and to seek more information about a Graduate School I want to go to. He’s Italian-Australian and his now-wife is South Korean (who is soon to become an Australian). This was the first wedding I’ve ever been invited as an adult so I was very excited about attending it. I was asked to be an interpreter for my student’s parents who are English-speakers on different occasions and help out on other celebratory occasions as well. I felt honoured and quite nervous but I was up for the job and wanted to give it a crack. Both families were happy with my work. I couldn’t have been happier.

I wish Anthony R and Seungyeon B a happy life together.

A few days after the wedding, I went down to my family in Busan, and I had plans to go to Japan the following week. But I delayed my flights by about 4 days and made a day trip up to Seoul to meet an active professional interpreter who I met through social media. I was so grateful she made time to meet me. She bought me a meal and gave me words of encouragement and confidence. Her journey of becoming an interpreter, her discipline and her hard work truly humbled me. She was an alumnus of the graduate school I want to attend, The Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Graduate School. She motivated me to visit the school campus before I leave to go across the sea to Japan. So I did. I took time to come up to the school campus and it was truly an experience for me. I only walked into publicly accessible parts of the building and boy was my desire to continue studying in this field rejuvenated. The interpreter was free that day and met me later in the day. She showed me a little more around the campus and wished me all the best.

Simply grateful. I hope there is a day I can be of assistance to her.

As you’ve been reading along, you may have noticed that this is merely a travel blog post. I think you’re right…

To be honest, I just wanted to write today.

That’s all from me today.

See you soon!
